It has already been twice that I have experienced the same change in what I consider impressive and mind opening deep house/techno. Both have come from talking to Technowater’s Javier Borrasé. Both have come from listening to a Balance mix. This time however, has had a whole different level. This time my mouth is wide open, as I have never heard anything quite like this. Last time was spaniard Henry Saiz’ Balance 19. Now I’m talking about Guy J’s Balance presentation.
Guy J is an Israeli producer that has been making music since he turned 14 years old. Having grown up in Tel Aviv’s huge psy-trance scene, it came as unusual when his psy-trance and progressive likes turned to techno and deep house. In 2007 he released “Save Me”, which was impressive enough to catch british legend John Digweed’s attention, and launch Guy J into the epic Bedrock label. He released his debut album “Esperanza” in 2008, which featured a rare perfection of a blend between progressive house, electro and techno. His next big step came in 2012, with his own imprint under Bedrock, called “Lost & Found”. Now each time he releases one of his carefully detailed and progressive masterpieces there is a huge fuzz and anticipation around it, with no surprise.
The mix I’m referring to has opened my mind into something new, the true new horizons of deep house and techno, each time blending more with elements of ambient and a strong constant bassline that will keep your monitor drives working out. In my opinion, one of the strongest features to distinguish this Balance edition and Guy J’s music in general from the rest of what is out there is his exquisite combination of mid-eastern sub-vocals and hidden melodies with the contemporary beats and feelings of an underground techno dancefloor. He achieves this subconcious atmosphere of mid-eastern mystery with a natural attitude that no other producer can arrange to do right now. There are few more details I can write about the quality of this release, whose quality is simply undescribable. If you had been unaware of Guy J’s efforts, this should be a great start to this journey and I strongly recommend you plug your headphones in and enjoy this masterpiece.
